  • June: all Saturdays and Sundays
  • Early July: all Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays

Departure times:

10.15hrs, 11.30hrs, 13.15hrs, 14.30hrs

Each return trip lasts about an hour and comprises a short train ride out to and back from Pen-y-Mount station, with, on the way back, the highlight of the visit, a stop of around half an hour to explore ‘The Engine Sheds’, our extensive, interactive railway heritage centre, with (subject to volunteer availability) an opportunity to ride on our miniature railway.

For more information please check this website again later, or see our Facebook pages.

All have been specially prepared to meet COVID-19 hygiene and social distancing requirements. The train comprises a diesel locomotive (steam July onwards subject to volunteer availability) and most of our operational carriages, with a maximum of 7 ‘compartments’ spaced out and demarcated for each household/social group/‘bubble’.

Principal fares (all for one return trip only)

Adult £10.75, Child £5.25 (under 3s free), Family (2 adults and maximum 2 children) £28.25.

Because of the limited capacity, visitors are strongly encouraged to make advance reservations.

To reserve a ‘compartment’ please email info@whr.co.uk no later than 24 hours before the scheduled departure with, for each household/social group, lead name, mobile phone number, details of tickets requested, and total numbers of persons (adults, children and under 3s) within the group.

Some of this information is also required in support of the Welsh Government/National Health Service Covid-19 contact tracing arrangements. This will be retained securely for 21 days after the date of the visit. None will be passed to any other party.

‘Compartments’ not reserved 24 hours before departure, and reserved ‘compartments’ not claimed and paid for 20 minutes before departure, will be made available for general sale.

In all cases payment by card would be greatly appreciated.

Whilst at the Railway, we encourage all our passengers to wear face coverings when possible, excluding those with medical requirements. Aside from this exception, it is compulsory to wear face coverings in and around the station buildings, the train, the museum and the miniature railway. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

Our ticket office and shop will be open on all days that trains are operating, also on other Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Opening times are 09.15hrs to 16.00hrs on operating days, 10.00hrs to 15.00hrs otherwise.

Please make any enquiries by email to info@whr.co.uk. Enquiries may also be made by phone, to 01766 513402, but please note that an answering machine is in operation for most of the time.

In view of the constantly changing circumstances it may be necessary to make changes to the published timetable and opening times, and to alter, cancel or suspend any train, at short notice. Where possible we will advise on this website and our Facebook pages, but we can accept no liability for any loss, delay or inconvenience caused.

Please note that our normal ‘Ride all Day’, ‘Footplate Pass’, and ‘Driver Experience’ offers are suspended until further notice.

We wish everyone well and look forward to your continued support.
