Drive a Diesel

Drive a Diesel

Emma

Unfortunately, this activity is suspended until further notice.

Fancy driving a real diesel engine? Well, you can do this on our “Drive a Diesel” days.

It’s great for families. Children of all ages can have a go at driving (as long as they are accompanied by an adult) and we can take groups of up to 5 people on each trip. A trip takes about 10 minutes and we divide this time equally between the members of your party who want to drive. You don’t need any previous experience at all - our instructor comes with you to explain how everything works.

To take part you have to be able to get into the diesel from ground level, a height of 70cm (2ft 4ins). The doors are 44cm (1ft 5ins) wide.

There is no extra charge for “Drive a Diesel”, but it is only available to holders of valid tickets for our passenger train. To get to it take the ride on our train and when it arrives at the engine sheds follow the signs for “Drive a Diesel”.

The number of trips available each day is limited, so although it is free, you need to get a timed ticket to book your slot. The signs will lead you to the ticket collection point where you can collect your free “Drive a Diesel” ticket.
