Russell Rebuild

Appeal for Help with Russell Rebuild

Russell
Russell in the platform headshunt,
Porthmadog station. 1999.

The Welsh Highland Railway's flagship locomotive, 2-6-2T Russell, built by Hunslet in 1906 for the PBSSR, has left us recently for the final stage of its restoration at the workshop of Alan Keef & Co.

There's just one problem - well one hundred and twenty-five thousand problems really. The final bill for the completed locomotive will be around £250,000 and that's where you come in...

In these times of austerity, rising fuel prices, and competition from other worthy appeals, £250,000 sounds like a lot,  But is it?

If every supporter completed a standing order mandate completed a standing order and committed themselves to a mere £19.28 per month for 12 months we would reach our target.  Or to put it another way, that's only £4.82 per week.  And we would see Russell in steam in 2014 for less than the price of a pint a week!

And if you sign the Gift Aid form, your donations become even more valuable to us.

The Russell Appeal is our top priority - please consider supporting it. If you can't commit to £250, any donation would be greatly appreciated. Of course if you are feeling generous and want to send more than £250, Russell will bevery grateful!

Russell is the Welsh Highland Railway.

Thank you!

Tax Benefits from your Gifts

Under HMRC rules from 1 January 2013 any gift can qualify for a tax repayment of 25p for every pound to the Company, if you are a UK taxpayer. There is no need to sign a deed of covenant for regular payments, and there is now no minimum for one-off payments. All you need to do is complete the simple declaration below. You should only do this if you are sure you will pay enough income tax in the year to cover the tax repayments. Higher rate taxpayers can continue to claim higher rate tax relief on their tax returns.

Examples: Your donation £10 £20 £50 £100 £250
Tax refund £2.50 £5.00 £12.50 £25 £62.50
Total value £12.50 £25 £62.50 £125 £312.50

To: Welsh Highland Railway Ltd (registered charity no. 1039817)

Please treat the enclosed gift of £ ------------------------- as a Gift Aid donation.

I confirm I have paid or will pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for the current tax year (6 April to 5 April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that I donate to will reclaim on my gifts for the current tax year. I understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. I understand the charity will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I have given.
